THE ARTIST

My paintings start with attention. I am drawn to moments, objects and people that resonate and inexplicable gravity.

Rather that imposing meaning, I seek to extend the encounter and leave space for the viewer to complete it.

Through colour, light and observation, I hope to create works that feel both intimate and exploring - quiet records of a world worth looking at.

“I paint the overlooked moments of ordinary life. Through colour, light and observation, I seek to extend attention rather than define meaning.”

JAIME BUCHANAN

BIOGRAPHY

Jaime Buchanan is a contemporary Australian painter based in the Glass House Mountains, Queensland, where he lives and works throughout the Sunshine Coast region. His practice explores light, atmosphere, and the emotional significance of everyday subjects, transforming ordinary moments into deeply personal visual experiences.

An early introduction to the Impressionists during high school, particularly the work of Claude Monet, established a lifelong appreciation for the expressive possibilities of light and colour. While raising a family from a young age meant that art developed alongside life's responsibilities rather than as a conventional full-time career, his commitment to painting never diminished. Instead, those experiences strengthened his belief that the ordinary holds extraordinary meaning.

Working primarily in oil and acrylic, Buchanan paints from direct observation and photographic reference, allowing intuition and expressive brushwork to guide each work toward emotional rather than literal truth. Alongside his studio practice, he teaches drawing and painting, leads community art groups, and continues to contribute to the cultural life of the Sunshine Coast through exhibitions, education, and an enduring dedication to his craft.
